ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Helena Piccazio and I'm a violinist. My story with the violin began when I was almost 11 years old. My teacher was Renata Jaffe and her home smelled like rosin, I loved it. Back then I thought I was going to be an architect and violin was 'just a hobby'. When I realized, I was enrolled at a Music College, fascinated at all those things one can learn there. My favourite classes were Analysis and Counterpoint, besides Violin, of course.

During my post-college fase, playing in 3 orchestras, I saved some money and went to Budapest. I was there for 5 months having violin lessons with Leila Rásonyi e Peter Somogyi. From there I went to Spain to rehearse, because I got accepted at the World Orchestra (of the Jeunesses Musicales back then). With this orchestra I had my first tour ever: in China! I toured two more times with them, both in Europe. It was awesome!

In 2006 I went to USA to a small conservatory down in Florida where I studied for three years. In this period something quite amazing happened: I was accepted at the Lucerne Festival Academy, with the one and only Pierre Boulez. It's an orchestral summer academy for contemporary music. For someone who likes it, like myself, this is great!

After the USA I moved to northern Italy, to an even smaller music school, in a small town called Pinerolo. I was there for three years as well, but I had two violin teachers: Dora Schwarzberg and her assistant Adrian Pinzaru. There are wonderful and were very important in my life. In the land of opera I also played at Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Parma, an opera house in the G. Verdi area. This is when I fell in love for opera for good... to listen, see and be a part of the way they play their own music was just too beautiful.

In 2012 I came back to São Paulo, Brazil, my homeland and in 2014 I joined the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal, which is the main opera house around here. So good to play in this orchestra!

Since then I performed the Concerto for Violin and Percussion Orchestra by Lou Harrison, recorded the contemporary music album 'Sobreluz' with Camerata Aberta ensemble, concluded the Master of Music program at São Paulo University (USP) and currently I also teach violin and chamber music at the State Music School - EMESP Tom Jobim.
